Ramps on I-81 South to Open Saturday, November 15th, Major Work to be Finished

Posted on Friday November 14, 2014

Dunmore – On Saturday, November 15 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. there will be a single lane closure on Interstate 81 South between Exit 191A (Dickson City) and Exit 190 (Main Avenue) in order to remove the barrier and open the ramp from Main Ave to I-81 South.  Once the ramp is open, the majority of the work in this area will be complete.

In the spring, crews will go back and do final paving in the southern end of the project and through the rock cut area between the Scranton Expressway and Clarks Summit.   They will also complete final paving on four ramps in the area.  This work is scheduled to be completed at night, thereby having minimal impact on the public.

Over the next few weeks, crews will continue to finish a sound barrier wall in the area and some additional minor work.  But the majority of the work in this area will be complete tomorrow.

This $32 million project consisted of the following work:

  • Rehabilitation of a five-span steel bridge over the Lackawanna River;
  • Rehabilitation of a single-span steel bridge over Main Avenue;
  • Paving, drainage, guiderail and other safety improvements from Dunmore to Clarks Summit; and
  • Removing a portion of the rock slope to increase its distance from the highway just north of Exit 191B (Scranton Expressway).
