PennDOT Roadwork Schedule- Week of July 12-19

The following roadwork is scheduled for this week on Interstate 81.

Special Events

Baseball is back: Please note there will be traffic issues at Davis Street, I-81 and Montage Mountain Road, Moosic, at the beginning and end of the games.  There will games:
Monday, July 15 at 7:05 PM;  Tuesday, July 16 at 7:05 PM;  Wednesday, July 17 at 12:05 PM;  Thursday, July 18 at 7:05 PM;  Friday, July 19 at 7:05 PM; July 20 at 6:35 PM and Sunday, July 21 at 1:05 PM.

Concert at the Toyota Pavilion at Montage Mountain on July 12 Third Eye Blind/ Jimmy Eat starting at 6 PM. Thursday, July 18 to Saturday, July 20  Camp Bisco and July 26 The Peach Music Festival starting at 8 PM.

Short Term

Exit 191 (Business RT 6) to the Susquehanna County Line. Emergency Pothole patching Operation-Monday 07/15/2019-Thursday 07/18/2019-8 AM to 2 PM

Exit 197 (Waverly) to Exit 194 (Clarks Summit) I-81 S bridge deck patching and approach repairs Monday, July 15 from 7 AM to 2 PM.  Right Lane closed.

Exit 223 to Exit 230  (New Milford to Great Bend) -Lane Restrictions-Mill/Fill-Monday,  7/15/2019-Friday  07/18/2019- 7 AM  to 3 PM

Long Term

I-81 Concrete  Replacement Project. The project is currently setting up a long term pattern on I-81 North Bound for the center lane work starting on Monday, June 4, 2019.  A traffic spilt will be installed at mile marker 185.3 (Central Scranton Expressway area)  to mile marker 186.5. (Dunmore, Drinker St area)  Traffic will be split to the left of I-81 North Bound only.   Traffic split to the right is for I-81 North Bound.,  I-84 East Bound., Route 0006 East Bound and the Drinker Street Exit Ramp  This pattern will be in place through July 4. The work will take place during day hours.

Exit 184 ( River St) to Exit 180 ( Moosic) I-81 NB/SB, Lackawanna County
This project consists of mill and fill which includes 9 bridges and resurfacing of existing bituminous interstate roadways and ramps and concrete bridge repairs. Other work includes guiderail, impact attenuating devices, temporary traffic control (day and night work), full depth shoulders to shift traffic at bridge work, temporary concrete barrier, excavation, delineators, signing, pavement markings, removal of portion of bridge, concrete bridge deck repair and miscellaneous construction. The project will be completed by the end of October 2020.

The project will begin on 3/25/2019 with dirt work (behind guiderail) for construction of the Moosic St. left hand exit ramp.  The contractor will be doing paving throughout the summer.  A lane restriction for short stretch of either I-81 NB or SB every weeknight (Sunday-Thursday) from 4/01/2019 through approximately late August.

Exit 191 (Dickson City Business Route 6) to Exit 194 (Clarks Summit) starting on 3/27/2019  work will begin on the shoulders  of the north and southbound lanes. There will be short term lane restrictions.  The work will take place from 8 PM to 6 AM  and will be completed on April 19, 2019. This is for preparation to repair several bridges on I-81 north and south.   This project consists of the milling and resurfacing of the existing bituminous roadway with Superpave scratch course and Stone Matrix Asphalt (SMA) wearing course, full depth bridge approach reconstruction, bridge rehabilitation work on six structures, temporary traffic control and pavement markings.  The work on I-81 north will be in 2019 and 2020 for the southbound.

I-81and 1-84 Pavement Failure Project: The project consists of concrete slab replacement and concrete pavement preservation activities in various locations on I 81 NB/SB from Exit 185 (Central Scranton Expressway) to Exit 186 (E Drinker Street) & on I 84 E/W from I 81 to Exit 2 (Elmhurst, PA 435) in the City of Scranton and Dunmore Borough, Lackawanna County. Concrete Slab Replacement includes the removal of existing concrete slabs, installation of subbase, new pavement joints, pavement patching joints, and new precast concrete slabs, regular concrete or accelerated concrete, based on location. Pavement preservation activities include dowel bar retrofits, sealing of the longitudinal and transverse joints, and diamond grinding of the new concrete pavement for a smoother ride. All work is confined to the existing highway.
