Interstate 476, the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike, is a toll road that parallels Interstate 81 between Exit 175 (Pittston) and Exit 194 (Clarks Summit). Motorists can avoid congestion in one of the most heavily traveled portions of I-81 by using this section of the Turnpike (Two toll plazas are within this section of the Turnpike). Drivers can reenter I-81 after exiting the Turnpike at its terminus in Clarks Summit.
Promoting use of this section of the PA Turnpike is one of several initiatives being undertaken by the Focus 81 Committee to reduce congestion and improve safety on Interstate 81 in Luzerne and Lackawanna counties.
