PennDOT Roadwork Schedule- Week of June 9-16

The following roadwork is scheduled for this week on Interstate 81.

Special Events

Baseball is back: Please note there will be traffic issues at Davis Street, I-81 and Montage Mountain Road, Moosic, at the beginning and end of the games. There will homes games on  on Friday June 16, and Saturday June 17  games start at 7:05 p.m.  On Sunday, June 18 games starts at 1:05 p.m.

The concert seasons begins at the Toyota Pavilion at Montage:  There will be concerts on Friday, June 9  starting at 8 p.m. and Saturday , June 10 at 7 p.m.   Please note that there will be traffic issues at the beginning and end time of concerts.

Short Term Projects

I-81-Southbound single lane closure from Exit 194 (Clarks Summit) to Exit 197 (Waverly) from 8 p.m. Friday, June 09, 2017 to 6 p.m. Saturday, June 10, 2017.

I-81 North and Southbound single lane closure from Exit 194 (Clarks Summit) to Exit 197 (Waverly ) from 6 p.m. June 12 through June 15. to 6 a.m. June 13 through June 16 for beam erections.

I-81 south bound from mile maker 196 to mile marker 192 single land from Sunday, June 18 from 8 p.m. to Monday, June 19 6 a.m. for an overhead sign replacement

I-81-North-Luzerne-165B/  175- Patching- Sunday, June 11 to Thursday, June 15 – 10 p.m. to 6 p.m.

I-81-SB-Susquehanna-Exit 230 (Great Bend) to the New York State Line-Crack Sealing and Pothole patching-Monday, June 12 to Thursday, June 15 – 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The contractor working on the I-81 Paving project in Susquehanna County will have multiple lane closures starting June 5 Monday morning at 12:00 am and continue through Friday June 9 at 2:00 pm at the following locations:

Northbound between mile marker 205.5 to 214.5 passing lane
Southbound between mile marker 223.5 to 220.5 passing lane
Southbound between mile marker 223.5 to 220.5 driving lane

The lane closure southbound starting at 223.5 will include advance signing starting at approximately mile marker 225.5

Long Term Projects

The replacement of bridge decks on Interstate 81 South, beginning at Exit 202 (Fleetville/Tompkinsville) and going to Exit 199 (Scott), will take place from April to November. There will be single lane traffic from Exit 202 to 199 during this period. The on-ramp to SR 81 southbound from SR 107 at Fleetville/Tompkinsville will be closed from April to August. A detour will take traffic onto I-81 northbound to Exit 206 (Lenoxville).

I-81 Bridges Jenkins/Pittston, rehabilitation and improvement of 81 North and South between Exit 170 (Bear Creek/Wilkes-Barre) and Exit 178 (Avoca/Wilkes-Barre Scranton Airport), construction of four single span steel plate girder bridges, removal of existing bridges, milling, superpave asphalt wearing course, overhead sign structures, temporary cross overs, drainage, guiderail, temporary concrete barrier, erosion and sediment control measures, pavement markers, temporary traffic control, signing, temporary excavation and support, and other miscellaneous construction, Let January 2014, NTP March 2014, To Be Completed December 2017.

Starting mid-April and lasting until October, I-81 southbound traffic pattern changes will include a split roughly 1,000 feet north of Exit 175 (Pittston). Crews use the split pattern so they can do work in the middle lane while still maintaining two lanes of traffic on I-81. Motorists will need to stay in their lanes as they travel through the construction area.

I-81, Exit 175 to SR 315 northbound at Oak Street-Armstrong Drive widening project will be completed by the end of June 2017.  This will allow for three lanes of traffic to come off the exit ramp.

I-81 Pavement Preservation Project in Susquehanna County will start on May 1.  There will be multiple single lane closures on Interstate 81 in both the northbound and southbound directions between mile marker 205 to 223.5.  The lane restrictions will be in place every week between May 1 and November 1, Monday through Friday.  The lane restrictions will be removed over the weekends barring any emergencies.  This will start on May 8 in the northbound direction and on May 22 in the southbound direction.

During the nighttime closure of I-81 southbound, all motorists will be detoured on I-81 at exit 197 to SR 632 (Commerce Drive) and SR 347 (Justus Blvd.) to Business Route 6 (Scranton Carbondale Highway) and will re-enter I-81 South at exit 191.   During the nighttime closure of I-81 northbound, motor vehicles will detour I-81 at exit 194 to Route 11/ Business Route 6 (Northern Blvd.) and SR 407 (S. Abington Road), to SR 632 (Carbondale Road) and will re-enter I-81 North at exit 197.  During this nighttime closure, trucks will detour I-81 north, but instead of using SR 632, trucks will continue north on SR 407 to SR 438 (Wellsville Road) and will re-enter I-81 at exit 201.
