PennDOT Roadwork Schedule- Week of March 18-25

The following roadwork is scheduled for this week on Interstate 81.

Short-Term Projects:

The Wilkes-Barre Township Police Department is issuing a Traffic Advisory for Friday, March 18, 2016, due to the sold out Blake Shelton concert at the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza. Please expect significant traffic congestion during the following time periods: 6 p.m-7:45 p.m. and 10:30 p.m-11:30 p.m. in the vicinity of the Arena, including Highland Park Blvd., Exit 168 Interstate 81, Route 309, and Mundy Street around the Wyoming Valley Mall.

Please be advised that the Central Scranton Expressway will be closed from Friday night April 1, 2016 at 9 p.m. it will remain closed until Sunday, evening April 3, 2016 till 9 p.m. when it will reopen.   A detour will be set up on Friday, April 1 through Sunday April 3.  There will be alternate lane closures on I-81 to modify overhead signs.  The work is being done to install quick curb to address cross-over issues on the main line.  Also emergency pavement pairs will be done on the main line. Emergency vehicles will be allowed through. Please note rain date will be Friday, April 8 through Sunday April 10.

The routes to be closed:

SR 3022 inbound and outbound for the entire SR
SR 8025 Cedar Avenue Ramps inbound and outbound for the entire SR
SR 8025 Spruce Complex ramps inbound and outbound for the entire SR
SR 8005 I-81 Exit 185 ramps inbound and outbound for the SR
I-81 north and south at Exit 185 alternating lane closures

 
Long-Term Projects:

I-81 – Lackawanna County – between Exit 180 (Moosic) to Exit 175 (Dupont/Pittston) there will be lane shifts due to reconstruction work to the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Airport Exit including widening of bridges on Interstate 81, rehabilitation of existing bridges over Lidy Road, State Route 315 (Airport Road), and Plane Street, replacement of the pedestrian bridge just north of the Avoca Exit, construction of new exit and entrance ramps, three new roundabouts, construction of two new bridges, and construction of a new roadway.  There are now two new ramps and a new roundabout opened near the airport.  The roundabout from I-81 South at Exit 178 is also now open.  Anticipated completion – Spring 2016.

I-81 – Luzerne County – I-81 North near Exit 175.  Motorists will need to make a lane decision approximately one mile before Exit 175 (Pittston).  Motorists in the right lane will be able to exit at 175.  Motorists in the left lane will not be able to access the exit because a contractor will be working in the area between the two lanes. The split pattern will be in place until June 2016.  The entire project is scheduled to be complete by summer of 2017.

I-81, Luzerne County – I-81 North and South between Exit 170 (Bear Creek/Wilkes-Barre) and Exit 175 (Pittston) in Jenkins Township and Pittston. Rehabilitation and improvement of bridges on I-81. Construction of four single span steel plate girder bridges, removal of existing bridges, milling, superpave asphalt wearing course, overhead sign structures, temporary cross overs, drainage, guiderail, temporary concrete barrier, erosion and sediment control measures, pavement markers, temporary traffic control, signing, temporary excavation and support, and other miscellaneous construction, Let January 2014, NTP March 2014, To Be Completed October 2017 – 27.74 million.
