PennDOT Roadwork Schedule- Week of December 4-11

The following roadwork is scheduled for this week on Interstate 81.

Short-Term Projects:

I-81/SR-315 Luzerne County: There will be a detour on SR-315  starting on Friday, December 4, 2015 at 6 p.m. to  Saturday, December 5, 2015 to 5 p.m. From the Pilot Truck Stop, Dupont to the I-81 on ramp for the installation on new beams on the bridge replacement project.  Drivers will have full access to I-81 and the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

This work will involve single lane closure on I-81 SB  on December 4, 2015 starting at approx.9 p.m.  through 6 a.m. on Saturday, December 5, 2015, then switching to a single lane closure on I-81 NB from approx. 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, December 5.  The detour will from Main St in Dupont to the Pittston By-Pass to Oak St, Pittston.

I-81 NB and SB- Luzerne County- Exit 175-180- Single lane closure for road maintenance.  Monday, December 7, 2015 6:30 p.m to Tuesday, December 8, 2015 6 a.m.

I-81-NB-Lackawanna County-Exit 185 Scranton Expressway and Exit 186 Drinker St.-Emergency Inlet Repairs-Thursday, December 10, 2015- 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

I-81-NB-Lackawanna County-Exit 201- Exit 206-Crack Sealing- Monday, December 7, 2015 to Thursday, December 10, 2015 – 7 a.m. 3 p.m.

I-81 NB- Lackawanna County and S.R. 6 (Casey Hwy.)/Interstate 84 split- Emergency inlet repairs in gore area- Thursday, December 10, 2015. The inlet top and grate have failed and pose a safety concern for motorists and also for Maintenance operators during winter snow removal operations. The lanes directly adjacent to the gore area (right lane of main line I-81 and the left lane of ramp to Casey Hwy.) will need to be closed.

Long-Term Projects:

I-81 – Lackawanna County – between Exit 180 (Moosic) to Exit 175 (Dupont/Pittston) there will be lane shifts due to reconstruction work to the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Airport Exit including widening of bridges on Interstate 81, rehabilitation of existing bridges over Lidy Road, State Route 315 (Airport Road), and Plane Street, replacement of the pedestrian bridge just north of the Avoca Exit, construction of new exit and entrance ramps, three new roundabouts, construction of two new bridges, and construction of a new roadway.  There are now two new ramps and a new roundabout opened near the airport.  The roundabout from I-81 South at Exit 178 is also now open.  Anticipated completion – Spring 2016.

I-81 – Luzerne County – I-81 North near Exit 175.  Motorists will need to make a lane decision approximately one mile before Exit 175 (Pittston).  Motorists in the right lane will be able to exit at 175.  Motorists in the left lane will not be able to access the exit because a contractor will be working in the area between the two lanes. The split pattern will be in place until June 2016.  The entire project is scheduled to be complete by summer of 2017.

I-81, Luzerne County – I-81 North and South between Exit 170 (Bear Creek/Wilkes-Barre) and Exit 175 (Pittston) in Jenkins Township and Pittston. Rehabilitation and improvement of bridges on I-81. Construction of four single span steel plate girder bridges, removal of existing bridges, milling, superpave asphalt wearing course, overhead sign structures, temporary cross overs, drainage, guiderail, temporary concrete barrier, erosion and sediment control measures, pavement markers, temporary traffic control, signing, temporary excavation and support, and other miscellaneous construction, Let January 2014, NTP March 2014, To Be Completed October 2017 – 27.74 million.

I-81, Luzerne County– I-81 North and South , between Exit 170 (Bear Creek/Wilkes-Barre) and Exit 175 (Pittston), in Plains and Jenkins Township.  Replacement of four bridges (two over SR 2020, Jumper Road and two over Sunset Road), bridges widened for two lanes of traffic, excavation, full depth bituminous pavement, drainage, guiderail, temporary concrete barrier, erosion and sediment control measures, pavement markers, temporary traffic control, signing, bridge removal, piles, temporary excavation and support, and other miscellaneous construction, Let March 2013, NTP May 2013, To Be Completed July 2016 – $20.88 million.
