PennDOT Roadwork Schedule- Week of October 9-16

The following roadwork is scheduled for this week on Interstate 81.

Short Term Projects:

I-81 Split:  Beginning next week crews will begin to set up a split pattern on I-81 North.  As motorists head north on I-81, they will need to make a lane decision approximately one mile before Exit 175 (Pittston).  Motorists in the right lane will be able to exit at 175.  Motorists in the left lane will not be able to access the exit.  A contractor will be working in the area between the two lanes. The split pattern will be in place until June 2016.  The entire project is scheduled to be complete by summer of 2017. 

I-81 NB/SB- Exit 185 Central Scranton to Luzerne County Line- Crack sealing, manual patching and bridge deck repairs as required on Interstate 81 in the north bound and south bound direction from the concrete pavement area north of the Central Scranton Expressway to the Luzerne County line. Work to begin Wednesday October 14 and take approximately two and a half weeks to complete.  South bound left lane closed on Wednesday October 14. South bound right lane closed on Thursday, October 15. Lane closure length approximately 3.0 miles per day.

I-81-NB/SB-Lackawanna-Luzerne County Line to Exit 191 – Business Route 6-Mowing Operation (Median Areas and Shoulders)-Tuesday October 13 -Friday, October 16- 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

I-81  Exit 194- Exit 206-Lackawanna County- Crack Sealing-Tuesday, October 13- Thursday, October 15- 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I-81-SB-Lackawanna County-Exit 185 Central Scranton Expressway to Exit 182 Davis Street-Crack Sealing, manual patching and bridge deck repairs-Wednesday, October 14- Thursday, October 15- 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

I-81 NB- Lackawanna County- Exit 199 (Scott) to Exit 201 (Fleetville-Tompkinsville)- crack sealing/pothole patching – 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Long-Term Projects:

I-81 – Lackawanna County – between Exit 180 (Moosic) to Exit 175 (Dupont/Pittston) there will be lane shifts due to reconstruction work to the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Airport Exit including widening of bridges on Interstate 81, rehabilitation of existing bridges over Lidy Road, State Route 315 (Airport Road), and Plane Street, replacement of the pedestrian bridge just north of the Avoca Exit, construction of new exit and entrance ramps, three new roundabouts, construction of two new bridges, and construction of a new roadway.  There are now two new ramps and a new roundabout opened at Exit 178.  Anticipated completion – Spring 2016.

I-81 – Luzerne County – between Exit 175 (Pittston) to Exit 170 (Wilkes-Barre) there are lane shifts due to reconstruction work on several bridges in both northbound and southbound directions.
