The following work is scheduled for this week on Interstate 81.
Short Term Projects:
I-81 north and south bound will be down to a single lane on Saturday October 18, 2014 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Exit 185 (Central Scranton Expressway) to 180 (Moosic) for pavement repair.
There will be a ramp closure on I-81 S at Exit 190 (Dickson City/Main Ave) starting Sunday, October 12 at 6 p.m. for approximately two weeks for reconstruction and repairs to the ramp. During this time the ramp from I-81 South to Main Ave will be closed. Motorists should follow the detour to Exit 188 (Dunmore).
I-81 Alternating lane restrictions for pothole patching on Tuesday, October 21, 2014, northbound and Wednesday, October 22, 2014 southbound. Patching will be between Exit 155 (Dorance) and Exit 165 (Wilkes-Barre, Northbound) and (Mountain Top/Ashley Southbound)
I-81 southbound from Exit 230 (Great Bend-Susquehanna Hallstead) to Exit 223 (New Milford-Lakeside Montrose) will be down to a single lane on Monday, October 20, 2014 for bridge deck repair from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
I-81 slowing moving traffic starting Monday, October 20 through Wednesday, October 22 at Exit 175 B (Dupont Southbound) for construction vehicles to exit and enter the work zone from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Long Term Projects:
I-81 – Luzerne County – Exit 178A (Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Airport) and Exit 178B (Avoca) have now been combined into one exit, Exit 178 (Wilkes-Barre Scranton Airport/Avoca).
I-81 – Lackawanna County – between Exit 180 (Moosic) to Exit 175 (Dupont/Pittston) there will be lane shifts due to reconstruction work to the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Airport Exit including widening of bridges on Interstate 81, rehabilitation of existing bridges over Lidy Road, State Route 315 (Airport Road), and Plane Street, replacement of the pedestrian bridge just north of the Avoca Exit, construction of new exit and entrance ramps, three new roundabouts, construction of two new bridges, and construction of a new roadway. Anticipated completion – November 2015.
I-81 – Lackawanna County – between Exit 188 (Dunmore/Throop) and Exit 190 (Main Avenue) – Lane shifts on I-81, ramp closure from Main Avenue to I-81 North is now open. Anticipated completion – fall 2014.
I-81 – Schuylkill County – Between Exit 134 (Delano) and 138 (PA 309) will be single lane in both directions and Exit 138 will be closed due to a long term reconstruction/rehabilitation project. During the closure the posted detour will route traffic to Exit 141 (PA 424) to use PA 424/Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce Beltway to access PA 309 north. Anticipated Completion – March 2015.
